Email marketing is the backbone of businesses in the 21st century. Not social media, not direct mail, not advertising. Since email marketing has such a high ROI and has a low barrier to entry, it’s important to choose the perfect email marketing app for your business. Do you need one that sends transactional emails or are you in the market for a killer autoresponder?
This list of email marketing apps will help you narrow down the selection based on your needs and start marketing through email like a boss.

I can talk about Getresponse for days because it’s the email marketing service I’m currently using. They have exit intent popups, landing pages, drip campaign features, and a host of other things that’ll make you want to stay forever. Hundreds of templates and a comprehensive calendar makes it easy to stay on top of your list without having to do anything for months at a time. If that’s not enough, you can send action based emails that do the heavy lifting for you. It’s billed as an autoresponder, but it’s truly so much more than that.
Mandrill is a software created to work with that’s geared toward sending out transactional emails. The premise is simple, instead of sending out emails based on your gut, you can now send them based on what they’re doing on your site, how they interact with your content or what they do with your emails.
Mailgun is a powerful platform for sending out bulk emails in a hurry. One major caveat is that you need to be a developer or have a developer on your team. If that’s not a problem then step into the world of mailgun. You can easily validate, send, and track all your transactional emails.
SendGrid starts off free for the basic features and up to 12,000 emails a month. After that it’s 9.95 a month to send out 40,000 emails. SendGrid combines marketing emails with transactional emails triggered by actions taken in your app or software. It comes with a number of templates, drag and drop editor, and email import options.
Sendinblue has a decent feature set and the free plan lets you send up to 9000 emails/month. All the essentials are present such as analytics on open rate, bounce rate, and a strong autoresponder. It has great sendability (it hasn’t been blacklisted) and you can easily import your lists from other services. A simple and affordable option for any entrepreneur looking to step up their email marketing game.
MailTrack.io is a simple piece of software that lets you stay on top of what’s happening when you push the send button. It’s great for testing subject lines, figuring out your open rated, and calculating reply percentage.
Mailchimp is a fun email marketing app that lets you have thousands of contacts for free and is ideal for those of you just starting out. It’s trusted by over ten million to get their mail out every month. Active Campaign’s strength is the ability to organize all of your data into an easy to use and understand flowchart. Sending drip emails to customers, leads, old friends all at the same time has never been easier. You can also send out email blasts for special marketing campaigns using this app.
It’s a brave move when you name your software Drip. You have to really deliver on marketing automation and Drip does a good job with that. You can set up event tracking, if then rules (if a person does this then do this), and a large range of customization options. All these things work together to make sure you take your email marketing to the next level. Finally, the Drip team is very responsive to feature requests from their customers.
