All the experts tell you these are the things you need to concentrate on, but when you do them alone you get lackluster results and it leaves you wondering what you missed.
Don’t get me wrong, all these things are well and good (I do them myself), but they’re just a drop in the bucket when it comes to what really matters.
This post isn’t going to be about the 1001 things you might need to do to get ahead online. It’s about the single thing you must do to make your online journey successful.
Before I tell you the secret ingredient, I’m going to give you a few examples of people who’ve learned the skill and your job is to see if you can spot it.
These are some of the most successful people in their respective industries whether it’s Digital Marketing, Psychology, or Dating. There’s one thing tying them all together, a common thread they identified and eventually mastered.
Go to their websites, read some of their articles, and even subscribe to their mailing lists. When you’re done, read the rest of this article to check if you were able to spot the one thing they all have in common.
Did you catch it, the thing that makes them stand out from the crowd and allowed them to build an audience that loves them, supports them, and buys from them en masse?
If you didn’t catch it I don’t blame you, it took me a while to figure it out myself. I was stuck in the loop of conversion rate optimization, SEO, and traffic generation for too long.
It made me lose sight of what people really need and want when they stumble across your website.
Let me backtrack for a second.
People only use the internet for two reasons.
There’s nothing more and nothing less to it (Why do you think Facebook and Wikipedia are so popular?).
If you’re not doing either then you’re wasting your time and more importantly, the time of your visitors.
As an entrepreneur, it’s most likely you’re doing the second thing on the list. Educating.
Educating the world about your product/service, why they need it, and how it can make their lives easier.

The first website is talking to you like you’re a hedge fund analyst that’s been working with Roth IRA’s for the last fifteen years. While it would be interesting to have a masters in economics, I don’t so I don’t expect you to explain something to me like I do.
The second website is talking to you like you’re an old friend sitting across a table drinking iced tea on a hot summer day while the kids play in the backyard.
Great bloggers, influential people, and masters of persuasion all have the same thing in common; they know how to communicate.
They know how to tell a story, they know how to suck you in, and most importantly, they know how to make you swallow the red pill with their words and the content they generate.
That’s the first thing you need to understand when it comes to online success.
If you can’t communicate with your target audience in a way they can understand then no matter how many “other techniques” you master, you’ll always come back with lackluster results.
Let’s tear apart some of the most successful websites in existence and take a firsthand look at what they’re doing right.
